Now here’s a neat thing! Check out Mairead de Roiste’s very clever crochet mapping of Aotearoa’s soil lead as derived out of data from GNS’s Geochemical Atlas of Aotearoa New Zealand. We love that one of Mairead’s projects as part of her #30DayMapChallenge was on soil!

Her Instagram post shows the process of creating her map and the context of the visualisation (i.e. how to interpret it):  https://www.instagram.com/reel/DRhD_DxiUpS/

In Mairead’s words, “Mapping environmental data through craft offers a different kind of engagement; slower, more tactile, and deeply reflective about what these numbers mean for the places we live.” We’re here for it!

Happy World Soil Day everyone!
